The Senior Government Relations Specialist is responsible for raising the profile of Parq Vancouver with elected officials and key decision-makers at the municipal and provincial levels of government and for supporting the planning, development and implementation of Parq’s government relations strategy. This role provides timely research and analysis of public policy matters of importance to Parq and monitors government policy initiatives to identify threats and opportunities. In addition, this role identifies internal issues that require legislative, regulatory or strategic policy changes. This position will support and report directly to the Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance.
•    Manage and lead the implementation of government relations strategies that position Parq Vancouver to successfully meet the goals of its Board of Directors and ownership group
•    Ensure that Parq’s government relations strategy is aligned and in compliance with the Operational Services Agreement with BCLC and the Gaming Control Act
•    Design, manage and execute strategic government relations campaigns to municipal and provincial elected officials and key decision-makers
•    Assess the impact of important legislative and public policy issues
•    Plan, develop and implement government relations strategies
•    Conduct strategic research related to public policy, industry and corporate issues
•    Monitor Parq’s requirements under its development permits and provide reporting on outstanding items and those requiring sign-off
•    Track property changes to ensure that planned modifications do not adversely impact Parq’s requirements under its development permits
•    Analyze and monitor legislation, updating position statements on public policy issues in consultation with ownership and Parq’s executive management team
•    Maintain an awareness and ensure compliance with legal requirements for the registration of lobbyists both municipally (when implemented) and provincially
•    Develop strategic contact plans and initiate meetings with key government stakeholders
•    Deliver in-depth management of emerging issues requiring briefings, recommendations and strategic advice
•    Act as corporate spokesperson representing Parq Vancouver in media interviews, at city council meetings and other events
•    Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders such as the City of Vancouver, the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB), the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (OIPC) and others
•    Build relationships with industry associations and other gaming services providers across Canada
•    Working closely with Corporate Social Responsibility to understand and vet organizations requesting donations or sponsorships and to present the findings to the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee
•    All other job duties as assigned
•    Completion of a post-secondary degree relating to communications or political science, and at least four years of related experience. A combination of education and work experience will also be considered.
•    Ability to view government relations from a strategic perspective and to take a measured, non-reactive approach to situations and challenges
•    Familiarity with the preparation and format of government briefing materials
•    Excellent understanding of Canadian political systems and public policy process
•    Ability to anticipate potential impacts of public policy and regulatory changes.
•    Highly competent in analysis, project management, sound business judgment, evaluation and measurement
•    Outstanding communication skills with a demonstrated ability to be creative in written content
•    Ability to effectively manage and deliver multiple projects in a quality and timely manner, independently and under pressure
•    Strong collaboration and relationship building skills
•    Comfortable with ambiguity and a changing environment
•    Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately
•    Ability to obtain a valid GPEB License
•    Ability to complete all BCLC Certifications
•    Serving it Right Certification

•   Able to lift, handle, and transport materials that are over 20lbs
•   Required to sit, stand and walk during working hours
