Founded in 1957, Joseph Ribkoff is an iconic designer, manufacturer and distributor of fashionable women’s apparel which is designed, sewn and produced in Canada and sold to 64 international markets. They are headquartered in Montreal where 400 of their 500 employees are based.  The Montreal location includes the corporate offices, production and warehouse facilities. 

This legacy organization, while steeped in a rich history, has been transforming itself through process improvement, cultural change and leadership.  The company has a senior leadership team which is comprised of individuals who have all joined within the past four years.  The last phase of this leadership evolution is this role – Vice President, Branding & Marketing. 

 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Branding & Marketing will focus his/her energy on enhancing the Joseph Ribkoff brand on a global basis and raising the company profile.  The company already has a strong reputation among its many and various customers and consumers.  This reputation has been forged through multiple activities including collateral material development, fashion events, in-store POP, sponsorships, and social media.  It is now time for the brand to be elevated to a global position to compete with other fashion houses. 

 

The Vice President, Branding & Marketing will steward and own the impressions that are created when the name – Joseph Ribkoff – is mentioned.  This is a strategic brand building role as well as an operational one. 


Responsibilities:

By the very nature of the business, the role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities.  Brand impressions are created through internal and external communications, printed collateral materials, fashion photography, advertising, public relations activities, customer events, social and digital media, and corporate social responsibility.  As well, the brand takes its shape from internal stakeholders in the design, merchandising and sales organization.   With these various influences, the Vice-President, Branding & Marketing will:

 

  • Lead the strategic and operational marketing functions for the organization;

  • Review all current marketing and brand activities and use expertise to frame and optimize marketing expenditures;

  • Develop a detailed and quantifiable marketing plan which will support business activities;

  • Review the brand’s position in the market and create a brand proposition that supports corporate objectives;

  • Work closely with the global sales organizations to provide sales programs and materials as well as with product design to bring the collections to market;

  • Conduct a review of all relevant external service providers and determine how to assess their performance and hold them to account for the success of their programs.  This is likely to include significant changes of relationships among these service providers;

  • Become a Brand-First organization ensuring that all employees understand the brand’s identity and positioning in the market.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc degree in Marketing, Communications or relevant field

  • Proven work experience as a VP of Marketing, Marketing Director or other senior role

  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing successful marketing campaigns

  • International marketing expertise

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Strong analytical and project management skills

  • Strategic mindset, with ability to make difficult decisions
