POSITION SUMMARY

 

The role is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in compensation and equity programs that attract, retain, and motivate top talent. The role requires a critical thinker with proven expertise and technical skills in compensation and equity practices within the banking sector.

 

 

MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE

 

Key accountabilities of this position include:

 

  • Compensation Consulting: Collaborate with internal partners to develop and implement compensation strategies and programs aligned with organizational goals, industry benchmarks, and regulatory requirements
  • Equity Plan Administration: Ensure the timely and accurate interpretation and administration of equity compensation plans, including stock options, and common and preferred share class holdings
  • Market Analysis: Conduct regular benchmarking and market analysis to ensure competitiveness of compensation structure, benefits, and equity programs, utilizing external surveys and industry data
  • Job Evaluation and Salary Structures: Apply business and role knowledge in evaluating jobs, ensure ongoing competitiveness of salary structures, and conduct ad-hoc market pricing for key roles to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness
  • Sales Compensation Plan Administration: Support the annual updating of plan documents, including analysis and back testing of any changes, communication thereof, and ongoing administration in partnership with Sales Leadership
  • Annual Compensation Review: Collaborate with HR Partners and Internal Compensation Planning Managers to complete year end review cycle, for Merit increase and Corporate Bonus awards
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, such as Federal Pay Equity, Canadian banking regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards, related to compensation and equity practices
  • Stakeholder Management: Partner with internal HR business partners, Finance, Legal, and other relevant stakeholders to drive alignment and integration of compensation and equity initiatives
  • Vendor Management: ensure proactive engagement with vendors on contract renewals, service issues, and ongoing internal compliance with OSFI B10 third party regulatory requirements
  • Executive Compensation: Administration of executive compensation programs, including executive bonus plans and long term equity compensation, and ensure completeness and accuracy of any analysis used in Board reporting
  • Employee Education and Communication: Develop and deliver training sessions, presentations, and communication materials to educate employees on compensation and equity programs

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

Qualifications

  • Completed post secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., CCP, CECP, CEP) preferred
  • Progressive experience in compensation, equity, or total rewards roles within the banking or financial services industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of compensation principles, practices, and trends, with a strong understanding of equity compensation plans and regulations
  • Demonstrated expertise in job evaluation methodologies, salary structures, incentive plan design, and market analysis
  • Expert knowledge of HR, Compensation and Equity software/tools (e.g., Dayforce, Shareworks)
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel in particular – pivot tables, slicers, and other advanced functions)

  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights to inform decision-making, as well as a fundamental predisposition to data integrity and confidence in what is presented
  • Ability to absorb and develop a deeply innate understanding of the organization, its programs, and employee data, and have the ability to pinpoint and diagnose issues and misalignments
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders within the organization
  • Proven track record of maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in handling sensitive compensation information

  • Hybrid office environment, 3 days per week in office
