POSITION SUMMARY

 

The role works with the Director, Finance and Strategic Initiatives Support and the VP, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to partner with the business and provide dedicated expertise in financial analysis, insights, and viability assessments on new and ongoing strategic initiatives along with driving efficiencies across the FP&A department.

 

This role is critical in ensuring HomeEquity Bank continues to maintain its competitive advantage by investing wisely in areas that create both top and bottom line growth.

 

MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE

 

  • Partner and collaborate with different business lines (e.g. Transformation, Strategy, PMO) to define, develop, and assess how to help the business optimize financial outcomes
  • Create and maintain performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to facilitate data-driven decisions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support month end financial analysis process (e.g. actuals to budgets, variance reporting) and assist with revising forecasts as applicable
  • Help monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform short and long-term financial forecasts

 

  1. Enterprise Decision Support and Analysis
  • Help establish bank-wide framework for value assessment, assessing initiatives for profitability and helping prioritize initiatives at an enterprise level
  • Support internal partners by reviewing business cases undertaken across the bank for performance improvement
  • Help provide recommendations to optimize financial performance, enhance profitability, and maximize ROI for all major strategic initiatives at the bank
  • Represent FP&A on strategic project teams across the bank

 

  1. Strategic Finance Initiatives
  • Analyze company performance and develop strategies to optimize financial performance (e.g. productivity and efficiency strategies)
  • Identify process improvements to increase FP&A efficiency, improving forecasting accuracy
  • Lead the development and maintenance of financial models as required

 

  1. Financial Result Communication
  • Help prepare quarterly and annual presentations to the Board and various committees (e.g. Audit) in regard to financial performance
  • Develop new financial reports and dashboards to help inform and improve decision making

 

  1. Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)
  • Support the month end process including financial statement analysis and associated reporting of actuals and budgets along with variance explanations
  • Periodic (quarterly, monthly) preparation and presentation of drivers and metrics with analysis and insights on achievement of financial objectives
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget working closely with various departments, implementing a zero-based budget framework

Qualifications and Technical Expertise:

 

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software such as Excel (proficient in PowerBI), SQL, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience with zero-based budgeting is an asset
  • 3-5+ years with progressive experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, and/or strategy within the Financial Services industry (mortgage / lending experience is a plus)
  • Strong quantitative skills, with proficiency in modeling – assessing strategic initiatives (e.g. business cases) from a quantitative and qualitative perspective
  • Strong PowerPoint skills, able to storyboard and create presentations for senior audiences

 

Attributes:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate historical data and trends and translate into actionable insight
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across all levels including Executive Management
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in strategic and financial planning (e.g. Zero-based budgeting)
  • Able to anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and help contribute to potential solutions
  • Experience in influencing business partners in cross-functional interactions
