Managing Editor, Branded Content

Global News and Corus Radio is looking for an experienced and creative writer, to create solutions that best tell an advertiser's message editorially (story, video, infographic, animation, sponsorships, etc.) for the various News and Radio sub-sites across Canada. The Managing Editor, Branded Content will be responsible for writing, pitching, brainstorming, managing freelancers for all branded content sales campaigns. They will have experience in the publishing industry, have worked in and thrived in a fast-paced environment, have a passion for creative content, and be able to manage freelance writers and edit engaging content for clients. She or he will also be expected to assist in reaching campaign goals by monitoring/tweaking digital and social content, seamlessly managing the editorial execution of campaigns, and building relationships with a variety of key internal stakeholders, freelancers, and external clients. This position will be based at 25 Dockside Drive in Toronto.

Reporting to the National Manager, Lifestyle and Entertainment with a dotted line to the Director, Sales Integrations and Business Development.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Serves as editorial gatekeeper for all branded content editorial to ensure quality, clarity and consistency for Globalnews.ca and Corus Radio

  • Be able to guide freelance writers in writing in a number of different styles, on many different topics

  • Experience writing for web, blogs, social, and more

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and keyword placement

  • Direct and/or write fresh content based on research and brainstorming by following instructions provided for each type of document

  • Write engaging video scripts, conduct interviews, and work with the editorial teams to develop sellable editorial features

  • Collaborate with content writers, editors, and post web and content

  • Write, edit, post, and update content on various platforms

  • Proofread content for errors or additions and ensure that content is written per instructions

  • Assesses social and website metrics and makes editorial improvements accordingly

  • Stays updated on industry trends and adjusts the content strategy as needed

  • Manages the distribution of content across all 3rd party channels

  • Manages the creation of style guides and editorial guidelines and procedures

  • Manages and commissions work to freelancers in a fast-paced newsroom-like environment

  • Creates digital, social and editorial strategies

  • Develop and manage editorial calendars in conjunction with the Globalnews.ca and Corus Radio teams

  • Offers strategic editorial and promotional recommendations for integrated campaigns

  • Collaboration with development and editorial teams

  • Liaison with sales and design teams

  • Collaborating with external and internal partners

  • Researching, fact-finding and organizing information and content when needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong expertise in developing winning branded content concepts and story-telling

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work well with cross functional teams

  • Proactive, takes initiative and brings new ideas to the forefront

  • Organized, detail-oriented, professional & friendly

  • Excellent knowledge of social media and digital best practices, the culture and language of the web

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Writes in CP style

  • Comfortable balancing a faced-paced, reactionary environment with proactive content planning

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Flexibility

  • Highly creative

  • Ability to manage stress and exceed standard expectations

  • Bachelor in Journalism, Communication or Marketing, or equivalent experience

  • Past experience within a digital newsroom is a strong asset

  • Experience in supporting the execution of integrated content programs for brands

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an editorial role
