About the Role:


Global BC, is looking for a Full-Time Editor to join the #1 Newsroom in Western Canada. This position reports to the Supervising Editor and is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.


Responsibilities:


  • Edit and shoot news footage to accurately portray news events for publication on Global BC, BC 1, Global National News and Online;


  • Communicate and collaborate with Producers, Reporters, News Camera Operators, Online Journalists and Radio reporters and producers;


  • The successful applicant will be required to work evenings and regular weekends (including early morning shifts) as well as various other shifts as required depending on vacation schedules and operational requirements;



What We Need From You:


  • Degree or diploma in Broadcasting Technology program;


  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience editing and shooting television news;


  • Strong editorial and storytelling skills;


  • Use sound editorial judgment and journalistic ethics in the handling of sensitive material;


  • Able to act independently with minimum supervision, and work effectively in a team environment;


  • Working knowledge of social media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and related applications;


  • Proven ability to edit with speed and accuracy on various editing systems including Grass Valley and Final Cut Pro.

  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows, as well as learn new skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;


  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple daily online and broadcast deadlines;


  • The ability to work with speed and accuracy in a stressful team-oriented environment;


  • Possess knowledge of the law and how it relates to the media. A familiarity with Global News Journalistic Standards and Practices an asset.


  • Have a good understanding of the three levels of government; federal, provincial and municipal.


  • Experience in updating online and broadcast content with a content management system.


  • Must have excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively, and cooperatively in a team environment;


  • Strong and proven leadership skills a must.
