980 CKNW Morning Show Host

About the Role:

This is a rare opening at one Canada’s great heritage news/talk radio stations. Reporting to the National Director of Talk Radio, 980 CKNW-AM in Vancouver is seeking a smart, curious, engaged personality to drive one of the top ranked morning radio shows in Vancouver. This person should bring a passion for news and the lower-mainland, have an absolute clarity on what listeners need and want in the morning, knows what drives conversation, and be a compelling storyteller.


Responsibilities:

  • Be informed, connected and entertaining with all content regardless of where it is distributed.

  • Understand what the CKNW listener wants and needs in the morning, and deliver it to them in a compelling and credible way.

  • Live and experience Vancouver and the lower mainland like a listener. Be connected to community whenever possible.

  • Embrace the multi-platform content approach and enthusiastically push and pull content on all of Corus’ platforms.

  • Work collaboratively with the team on programming, marketing, promotions and sales initiatives.

  • Be a tireless brand ambassador for 980 CKNW.

About You

What We Need From You:

  • A proven record of accomplishment and at least five years of experience in Large Market Radio or equivalent.

  • A commitment to waking up in the middle of the night, being prepared, informed, positive, and comfortable on the air from 5:30a each weekday morning.

  • Strong leadership skills, a self-starter with the ability to identify relevant stories and conversations, and position them in a unique and compelling way.

  • Excellent organizational, communication & interpersonal skills

  • Ability to write, speak, and perform for all media platforms

  • Keep listeners informed, enlightened, and entertained by preparing them for the day, piquing their curiosity, providing social currency, lifting their spirits and setting the tone and mood each day for every listener.

  • Keep listeners company by talk with them like a real, informed, curious, and interesting person.

  • Provide listeners a sense of place, a connection to community and make them feel included.

  • Creative, energetic, fun, outgoing, positive, friendly manner and team player
