About the Role:


We currently have an opening for a full-time anchor with Global News, based in Toronto and reporting to the Supervising Producer of Multi-Market Content. While not all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position are listed, the following is a paraphrase of the primary functions of this role:


  • Anchor national and local news broadcasts in various markets

  • Write, edit and produce packaged and live segments;

  • Lead editorial discussions and meetings;

  • Work with producers to determine editorial direction and content of newscasts

  • Report, Anchor, Co-Anchor other Global newscasts and/or special event coverage;

  • Host or co-host Global promotional activities from time to time;

  • Perform other duties as required;

  • Hours of work: varied, including Saturday and Sunday responsibilities.


About You:

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A university degree or equivalent post-secondary education in a broadcast-related field;

  • The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news;

  • Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years experience in television broadcasting including three years experience anchoring a daily newscast in a major market;

  • Strong news writing skills and the ability to ad lib comfortably;

  • Exemplary leadership and communication skills;

  • Excellent news judgement;

  • An amazing, can-do attitude;

  • An ability to mentor and coach others

  • Diverse background in national news considered an asset;

  • Life experience in, and knowledge of, various Canadian regions considered an asset;

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment;

  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple broadcast deadlines;

  • Ability to work well in a team setting;

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, social media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.), and related applications;

  • Public speaking experience is also a requirement.
