Position Overview:

The Funicular Operator is responsible for the daily operation of the funicular system which carries guests from the Hornblower Funicular Check in Booth to the Hornblower Landing.  The Operator will provide exceptional customer service, assist with crowd control, answer guest inquiries and ensure a safe and secure environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • operate Hornblower Niagara Cruises' Funicular in a safe manner, following all manufacturer and HNC operating procedures
  • assist the mechanic with pre-operating inspections as required
  • perform daily safety checks and logs
  • start funicular when in manual mode
  • monitor system through HMI Display during operation
  • perform minor troubleshooting through the HMI control Interface, such as identifying alarms and resetting faults
  • reconcile minor operational disturbances
  • ensure guests are properly following all safety precautions an regulations
  • ensure that the PCUs (Passenger Carrying Units) are sent at reasonable intervals, maintaining steady guest flow and line control
  • assist Guest Experience Ambassadors in counting guests to ensure no more than 56 passengers or 4312kg are loaded per PCU
  • report any unusual occurrences of the PCU immediately to the Guest Experience Supervisor
  • assist in maintaining/cleaning the PCUs throughout the operating day and between guest trips
  • take a lead role with evacuation of passengers in emergencies once the decision to evacuate the system has been made by Guest Experience Shift Manager


Qualifications:
 

  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education 
  • minimum two (2) years working experience in a customer service environment (preferably in hospitality/tourism)
  • excellent organization and troubleshooting skills
  • good communication and customer engagement skills
  • knowledge of another language in addition to English is preferred
